Common clothing changes, explained simply.
Alteration work depends on the garment's construction and condition. The categories below describe areas people commonly ask about; they are not a guarantee that every item can be changed in every way.
Length adjustments
Trousers, skirts, dresses, sleeves and other pieces may sometimes be shortened or lengthened where the existing construction allows it. Hems, cuffs, linings and decorative finishes can affect what is practical.
Shape and fit
Changes to side seams, waist areas or selected panels can sometimes improve how a garment sits. The available seam allowance and the way the garment was assembled are important considerations.
Closures and finishing
Buttons, fasteners, zips, hooks and related finishing details can be part of an alteration or repair. Matching the surrounding construction may determine the appropriate approach.
Small repairs
Minor tears, loose seams, worn sections and similar faults can sometimes be addressed. The strength and condition of the surrounding fabric matter as much as the visible defect.
